The club formerly known as Ongar (Shelley Juniors) Football Club changed its name in 1987 to Ongar Juniors Football Club. This was done when the current secretary Chris Barlow took over both the managers job and the secretarial duties. This was done after the current manager left the team after the first game of the season. At the time we only had one team running at under 14. Rather then see the team fold up I decided to give it a go. At that time our home ground was at Great Stony School in Ongar where we had three pitchers. I shall always be eternally grateful to the then head master of the school Ron Barnes for allowing us sole use of the pitches. Due to redevelopment of the school site we had to move, fortunately one of our managers Roy Durrant who was involved with Ongar Social & Sports Club asked me to attend an annual general meeting at the club. This was back in 1994, Ongar Juniors were formally invited to move to Love Lane where we have been ever since. At the time we had 5 teams running unfortunately due to limited space we had to drop 2 teams. Back in the beginning we used to play in the Ongar & District Junior Football League which covered an area from North Weald out to Great Notley. When the league folded in 1986 we joined the Harlow Council Recreational Football league then moving into the Chelmsford Youth League in1995 although we still had some teams playing in the Harlow league up to 1999. All our teams now compete in the Chelmsford Youth League for the new season we shall have 16 teams playing in the league from under 7 to under 16's. The clubs most successful team to date run from 1991 to 1997 from under 10 to under 15 they were managed by Steve Neal assisted by yours truly. During their time they won two league championships, three times league runners up, twice league cup winners, once league cup runners up & East Anglia cup runners up. We now have our own Soccer School running every Saturday morning for both boys and girls from the age of 4 to 11. Ongar Juniors are also a FA Charter Standard Development Club.
